Evolutionary psychology primarily focuses on the influence of genetics on behavior. While culture and society can play a role in shaping behavior, evolutionary psychologists believe that many behaviors and traits have evolved over time due to natural selection and genetic adaptation. This approach seeks to understand how evolved traits, such as aggression or mate selection, affect behavior and decision making. The analysis of mental processes falls under the realm of cognitive psychology, while the development and change of behavior over time is more closely related to fields such as developmental psychology and social psychology.
